Remembering President Alice Therese Riley-King: A Legacy of Leadership

It is with great sorrow that we must inform you of the untimely passing of President Alice Therese Riley-King. While working at GTE Sylvania, President Riley-King’s 30-year career on the Local 42 Executive Board began in 1985 as the Recording Secretary. Alice quickly assumed the role of Business Agent, a role she proudly held while she was elected Secretary-Treasurer and ultimately, in 1994, President & Principal Officer. Her steadfast leadership guided Local 42 through many tough strikes, plant closures and other attacks on the membership by corporate America. Always putting the members first, Alice’s accomplishments and leadership skills did not go unnoticed. Alice was elected to the Executive Board of Teamsters Joint Council 10 New England and along with her position of Principal Officer of Local 42, where Alice remained unopposed until her retirement in 2014. Alice’s retirement did not end her involvement in the Union. Alice remained chair of the Joint Council 10 Woman’s Committee making the world a better place with various missions such as the Magical Moon Foundation, school backpack drives, care packages for veterans and socks for the homeless. We will be forever grateful for Alice’s work and accomplishments; she will be fondly remembered by all who have had the privilege of knowing her. President Alice Therese Riley-King’s life’s work will continue to be carried on in the work of the Woman’s Committee and with all the members Alice inspired to become leaders and activists in their workplaces and communities.
